Michael A. Chavous is the Founder and President of the Son's Heart. He is a US Navy Veteran, a ordained minister and is currently a professional water treatment licensed operator. He has over 35 years utilities experience including a Red Seals Stationary Engineer License. Together with his wife, Kim they have 2  amazing daughters and have been married for over 35 years.  He has a heart to mentor and raise up leaders.​

Kim M. Chavous is the Treasurer of the Son's Heart.  She is married to Michael, the President and Founder. Together they have 2 girls and have been together for over 35 years. She is a ordained minister, holds various degrees; a Master of Leadership & Business, a BS in Business Administration and a dual associated degrees in Accounting and Business Finance.  Her major focus in ministry is to mentor women and married couples.

TREAS​URER

Jonathan Tyler is one of the board members of the Son’s Heart. He is married and enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and daughter. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and currently works as a commercial sales representative for a Fortune 500 company and also enjoys working with his clients. He plays basketball in his downtime and has the heart to see the youth develop into productive leaders in society.​ 

SECRETARY

Gary W. Cobb is one of the Board Members for the Son's Heart. He is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League and current radio and television personality on FOX-29 and WPEN in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He played for the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles. He is known for his in​terest in urban youth and was honored in 2002 by then President George W. Bush for his work as a mentor to troubled youngsters. He is a member of the Board of the Caring People Alliance of Philadelphia, which oversees a number of city community center and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Philadelphia. He is married to his lovely Gwendolyn Cobb and has 3 children.

BOARD MEMBER

 

Keith Hopson is one of the Board Members of The Sons Heart.  He is a long-time active participant of the TSH. He is a retired military veteran. He is an active member of his local community. A family man with a lovely wife and two terrific young boys. Keith currently works as an airline pilot. Aside from traveling and spending time with family and close friends, he is passionate about cultivating and mentoring the local youth.

BOARD MEMBER

Angelo Rivera is one one of the Board Member of The Sons Heart. He is married and has three amazing sons.  He is a long-time active participant of the TSH. He holds an AS degree. He currently works for the State of NJ. He is a former NJ Transit employee.  Angelo enjoys traveling to new destinations throughout the world. He is an avid sportsman, involved in a myriad of activities. He enjoys mentoring youth.

BOARD MEMBER

Pedro Smith is one of the Board Member of The Sons Heart. He is married and has an amazing son. He lives in Philadelphia. He has been a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department since 2013 and is currently serving as a Lieutenant. He has a desire to teach the youth skills that can be useful in life.

BOARD MEMBER

Bobby E. Battle is an honorary Board Council Advisor. He is married to the love of his life, Wilhelmena. They had three children from this union and a host of grandchildren. Bobby served as the New Jersey Judiciary Chief, Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Officer from 22 years. He spearheaded the establishment of the Judiciary’s EEO/AA Program recognized as a model for the National State Courts. He played a major role in the development of several Judiciary’s hiring protocols and shepherding them through the approval process. Prior to joining the Judiciary, he was a leader in the development and implementation of the Air Force’s and Department of Defense’s EEO/AA Program. He also was an Air Force Aviator, a Professor of Aerospace Science at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, a senior staff officer for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics in Washington, DC. He is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran with many awards to include U.S. Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master’s in Public Administration, and is a graduate of the United States War College.

Mission Statement

The Son's Heart is a Non-Profit Corporation whose sole purpose is to empower boys and young men to have the self confidence to pursue their own dreams and aspirations. This vision was started in 2006 by a group of men during a Bible study meeting with a desire to teach young men the life skills needed to propel them forward into a bright future.
